back WHAT IS VITA?

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) was created by the IRS and has been running for over 50 years to help offer free tax preparation assistance to those who need it. Among some of those who receive assistance from VITA are those who:

  • Generally make $57,000 or less
  • Persons with disabilities
  • Are limited English-speaking taxpayers

HWCLI works as a tax assistance site staffed with certified tax volunteers. HWCLI helps those who qualify and are preparing their own tax returns within the community.
